clear winner, the Patriot League Championship was decided on penalty kicks on
Sunday afternoon at Reeves Field, with the AU men’s soccer team ultimately
falling to Colgate University 5-4.

Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Yet, as the clock ticked down at the New Balance Field on the campus of Boston University for the second year in a row, the Eagles started to celebrate a different result. The AU field hockey team sent the ball down the field one final time before breathing a sigh of relief and cheering with joy as they became Patriot League champions after narrowly missing the title against the same team just one year ago.

On a chilly fall afternoon in
front of a large crowd at Jacobs Field that included several AU field hockey
alumnae, the field hockey team generated plenty of firepower, recording 33
shots in a 6-1 victory over Colgate.The Eagles (11-4, 5-0 PL) applied pressure
from the first whistle, and overwhelmed the Raiders (1-15, 0-5 PL) to remain
perfect in Patriot League play.

The AU club tennis team team will
compete in a national tournament for the first time when they travel to Hilton
Head, South Carolina to participate in the United States Tennis Association
(USTA) Tennis On Campus Fall Invitational at the end of this month.

Despite a poor offensive night, the AU volleyball team held off the Bucknell Bison 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 to win their 28th consecutive Patriot League match at Bender Arena. The Eagles (10-6, 1-0 PL) hit .183 offensively and committed 18 attacking errors, both numbers that concern head coach Barry Goldberg.

The AU volleyball team finished up its non-conference schedule by falling to Hofstra University in three sets on the final day of the Hofstra/Stony Brook Invitational this past weekend. The Eagles won four-set matches against Stony Brook University and Indiana University- Purdue University Fort Wayne on the first day of competition on Friday in Stony Brook, New York.

Friday night, the Eagles failed to overcome their strong opponents from No. 21
Ohio University, losing 18-16. AU seniors David Terao, John Boyle, Tyler
Scotton and Mitchell Wightman were honored before the match and all secured
victories in their final appearances at Bender Arena.

After a 4-0 victory from AU sophomore Jeric
Kasunic in the 197-pound bout, AU pulled within two points of Bucknell in the
team score during Saturday morning’s dual. However, a pin by Bucknell senior
captain heavyweight Joe Stolfi, ranked 8th in the country, over freshman Jake
Scanlan gave Bucknell the 24-16 victory over the Eagles.

With 4:58 left to play in the fourth quarter at Bender Arena, the AU women’s basketball team closed the lead of the Army Black Knights to two points. Over the final minutes of the game, the Eagles struggled offensively while Army closed the game on a 12-4 run to hand AU its fourth Patriot League loss Saturday afternoon.

For the third season in a row, the road to the Patriot League volleyball championship will go through Bender Arena. AU clinched its 13th regular season title in the past 15 years by virtue of its 25-18, 25-17, 25-18 victory over Lehigh University on Friday night. The Eagles added a second weekend victory when they defeated Colgate University 25-17, 25-15, 25-18 Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Patriot League play.

The AU Women’s basketball team put together a historic season in 2014-2015, amassing a 24-9 overall record and a record of 16-2 in the Patriot League. Although the team started the season 6-6 in its initial non-conference contests, the Eagles won 16 of their final 19 games, including a winning streak that spanned the entire month of February. The Eagles won the Patriot League regular season and tournament title to clinch their first NCAA bid in program history and earned a No. 14 seed for the tournament. The team then traveled to Iowa City and fell 75-67 to the University of Iowa in the first round of the tournament to close out the year.
