Campus climate survey paints grim picture of students' emotional safety, sense of belonging at AU

Only 55 percent of American University students believe that fellow students are committed to creating a sense of belonging, according to data released from AU's internal campus climate survey. Other results of the survey, which were shown during an Oct. 19 community meeting but have not been made publicly available, paint a grim picture of how students feel about their sense of emotional safety at the University.


Center for Undergraduate Experience consolidates resources for first year students

The Center for Undergraduate Experience is now the central office for on-campus housing and residence life, a shift from the previous department of Housing and Dining Programs. The Center was announced in a memo released to students in August from the Office of Campus Life, along with the separation of Housing and Dining Services into their own respective departments.


American University Student Government hosts town hall on Monday's hate crime

The American University Student Government held a standing room only town hall and press conference on Thursday afternoon to discuss action steps in response to the hate crime on Monday that targeted the historically African-American sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.


University hosts Facebook livestream about strategies for cybersecurity

After online threats were made against Student Government President Taylor Dumpson on Thursday night, the University is providing students with “strategies for cybersecurity and personal protection” through a Facebook livestream on Friday afternoon, according to the University’s Facebook page.  



American University hosts town hall to address racist incident targeting black women

The President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion led a community town hall in the Kay Chapel on Tuesday to address Monday’s racist incident targeting black women and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, whose members include Student Government President Taylor Dumpson.










AU teach-in educates and unites community

Just days before the inauguration of America’s 45th president, AU students, faculty and staff gathered in the Mary Graydon Center on Wednesday for the educative forum, “Teach, Organize, Engage.” The day was full of discussions and speakers, and included keynote remarks from Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland on his role in Congress in the Trump administration.
