The Eagles started their season off with a win in front of over 1,100 fans with a 2-1 victory over the Old Dominion University Monarchs. Tension filled the physical match from start to finish as two freshman Eagles scored in their first time on the pitch in the red, white and blue.

After being picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League preseason poll, American University men’s soccer (3-1-2) defeated the Loyola Greyhounds (3-2-1) 3-2 Wednesday to advance to the Patriot League championship game. The game came down to the final minutes after the Greyhounds equalized in the second half, but the Eagles bounced back with a goal in the 81st minute.

For the second game in a row, a hard-fought battle ended with a draw in double overtime as American University men’s soccer (2-1-2) and the Navy Midshipmen (4-1-1) each scored only one goal. Ending with a draw, AU has advanced to the four-team Patriot League tournament, notching a top-four seed for the first time since 2016.

The NBA playoffs are in full swing, but obviously, not every team is good enough to be a part of the games down in Florida. The Wizards (25-47) are one of these teams, as they failed to nab the 8th-seed during the eight-game regular-season stint that led up to the playoffs. Though Washington finished its disappointing season with an equally underwhelming performance in the bubble, the front office will benefit in the form of a first-round lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Washington’s NFL team is one of the worst teams in the league, and the future of the franchise is not one that is all that bright. On top of not winning a playoff game since 2005, Washington has had a losing record over the past three seasons, the worst of which was its 3-13 record last year.

That was even further compounded by a tough loss to the Lafayette Leopards on Saturday, sinking them to 4-6 in Patriot League play and 8-12 overall – a significant dropoff for a team that just last season made it to the Patriot League championship game.
