AU students were inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars Thursday at United Methodist Church. Members received their official society pins and took an oath in which they swore to uphold the principles of NSCS, chapter President Kerri Anderson said. Inductees heard from Amy Hendrick, an AU graduate and co-founder of Facilitating Leadership in Youth, and John Shosky, President of Roncalli Communication. Anderson said the Society's second meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 9 p.m. at a location to be announced and members who missed the ceremony will be able to pick up their pins.

Party enthusiast Andrew W.K. brought his hard-hitting riffs and dumbed-down, but oddly refreshing lyrics to more than 300 fans in the Tavern Thursday night. After playing Nation, the MCI Center, the D.C. Warped Tour, George Washington University and the 9:30 Club several times in the past year, Thursday's show, sponsored by the Student Union Board, marked his first at AU.

Last Friday, I attended a screening of the new Quentin Tarantino movie, "Kill Bill." From its previews (including a scene with a little girl arriving home from school to find her mother engaged in a knife fight), I anticipated a lighthearted satire with an extra dose of violence in the same vein as other Tarantino flicks. Instead, I watched a movie saturated in gore and brutality that was altogether sickening and disturbing.

Chi Omega sorority will hold a fundraiser for The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic today at Austin Grill in Glover Park. The restaurant will donate half of its sales from the evening to Make-A-Wish, as long as patrons sign "Make-A-Wish" on the back of their checks.

Sweat-drenched and feeling bitter at being the oldest people there, three members of the Eagle staff took on the 2003 Van's Warped Tour from four U.S. cities. In its ninth incarnation, the Warped Tour crisscrossed the nation from Idaho to New Jersey, bringing the biggest names in punk rock and extreme sports to over 40 cities.
