Q&A: Anthony McCarten, screenwriter of “The Theory of Everything”

Screenwriter Anthony McCarten is responsible for bringing the story of one of science’s most well-known figures to the big screen with “The Theory of Everything,” out Nov. 14. Theater Review: “Women on the Verge” take over the Greenberg

Director Carl Menninger, along with talented student performers, orchestra members and crew workers, brought the All-American Weekend audience to Madrid with the first few performances of “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” a musical adaptation of Pedro Almodovar’s film and the subsequent Broadway show.



Q&A: Jeremy Renner and director Michael Cuesta, "Kill the Messenger"

The political thriller “Kill the Messenger,” out Oct. 10, tells the true story of journalist Gary Webb, who was responsible for the discovery of the CIA’s “dark alliance” during the Cold War. Directed by Michael Cuesta (executive producer, “Homeland,” “Blue Bloods”), the film stars Jeremy Renner (“Inception,” “The Bourne Trilogy,” “American Hustle”), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”) and Rosemarie DeWitt (“The Watch”). The Eagle’s Tam Sackman sat down with Cuesta and Renner to discuss their film.






Q&A: Gabriel Iglesias, "The Fluffy Movie"

Gabriel Iglesias, better known as “Fluffy”, has been a longtime presence on Comedy Central. However, he has recently expanded to the big screen with a role in “Magic Mike” and a voice role in “Disney’s Planes”. Now, Fluffy is getting the big screen all to himself with “The Fluffy Movie,” a full feature film of all new stand-up material.




Movie Review: The Fault in Our Stars

For those who have yet to be swept up in the phenomenon that is author John Green’s teen-centered tearjerker “The Fault in Our Stars”, the premise is simple, sweet and terribly depressing. Two teens, Hazel and Augustus, (Shailene Woodley, “The Spectacular Now” and Ansel Elgort, “Carrie”) fall in love despite the fact that each of them is facing terminal cancer. Throughout the course of the story, they face impending mortality by each other’s side, culminating in a trip to Amsterdam despite the warnings of Hazel’s doctors.



An auspicious start for indie rockers NO. at 9:30 Club

As LA-based indie rock band NO. took the stage on the first night of its U.S./Canadian tour in support of composer Yann Tiersen, the crowd was dismal at best. A few gathered at the foot of the stage, willing to wait the openers out in anticipation for Tiersen’s act. Others stood by the bar and pursued side conversations to pass the time.
