Community concerns have been raised over some professors at American University choosing to teach maskless. Although many maintain a six feet distance from the rest of the class, some students still have reservations over the safety of this practice.

With the beginning of the academic year underway, The Eagle’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group met for its first meeting of the semester Wednesday. According to this semester’s diversity report, The Eagle’s fall 2021 staffers are more racially and ethnically diverse than in the spring. The data was collected from The Eagle’s fall 2021 staff intake form.

Of all the things I looked forward to when I started working at American University, near the top was returning to D.C. I was coming to AU after nine years at Syracuse University, but I knew the D.C. area, having worked for 11 years at both George Washington and George Mason Universities. In those days I lived in the Shirlington area of Northern Virginia and I was staying there with a friend while transitioning from upstate New York.

Opinion: AU’s Disability Studies certificate is a great start but not enough

There is little conversation about disability at American University. The only classes that engage with this subject are waitlisted because they fulfill the Habits of Mind requirements. There are still very few supplemental classes for students who are truly interested and affected by these issues.
