Initially, I planned on being done with The Eagle after the end of basketball season, but apparently my one reader was going to be disappointed with that, so here I am. As a compromise, we're introducing a new feature this week: The Ryan Smyth Fact of the Week, where you'll get to read about everyone's favourite new Islander (we here at The Eagle use Canadian spelling when talking about him.)

Andre Ingram hit a miracle three-pointer to tie the game with 39 seconds remaining, but Patriot League Player of the Year Keith Simmons scored with five seconds remaining to give Holy Cross a 55-53 victory over the Eagles on Sunday at the Hart Center in Worcester.

While campaigning last year for the position of Student Government vice president, Pat McGill promised to replace the annual Founder's Day Ball with "Bender Bash," a carnival in Bender Arena that would conserve funds for other events.

Andre Ingram scored a game-high 16 points and the Eagles held Colgate to 1-15 shooting from three-point range to earn a 59-44 victory in the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night at Bender Arena.

After a bit of a departure the past few weeks, we're back to the usual format today. Unfortunately for all of you, that means reading about hockey.

With just a little under three minutes gone by in the second half and the Eagles holding a six-point lead, senior Brayden Billbe had a clear look at the basket and went for a lay-up that was blocked by Lafayette's Ted Detmer, Billbe's third straight missed field goal.

With the most experienced roster in the Patriot League and confidence after a successful offseason trip to Europe, the AU men's basketball team began the season with dreams of winning the school's first Patriot League championship.

Instead of making fun of or complaining about five different sports figures this week, I am instead going to focus my energy into praising one great one: David Wright.

Andre Ingram led all scorers with 15 points and AU scored 38 points in the second half to pull away for a 64-49 victory over Army on Wednesday night at Bender Arena.

After Colgate's Dan Gentile tipped in a miss by teammate Jon Simon with 0.2 seconds remaining, it appeared as though AU was doomed to suffer yet another agonizingly close Patriot League loss. However, Brian Gilmore ran along the baseline before attempting to inbound the ball, drawing defender Kyle Chones right into Arvydas Eitutavicius, who held his ground and drew a foul. Eitutavicius sank both free throws to tie the game at 51 and send the game into overtime.

Andre Ingram led all scorers with 23 points, but was unable to connect on a game-tying three-pointer as Bucknell defeated AU, 69-66, on Tuesday night at Bender Arena.

Let's be honest: the Super Bowl this year was boring. There were more turnovers than the weekly two-hand touch game that I play in and Prince's halftime show would have been a great idea if it was still 1984 (or even 1999 for that matter, but party we did not). Worst of all, the commercials were generally uninspired, so here are five commercials that should have aired.

Jose Olivero scored 14 points and hit two free throws with four seconds remaining to lead Lehigh to a 56-54 victory on Saturday night at Bender Arena.

It's Super Bowl week, and since nobody cares about two teams from the Midwest, here are my choices for the Hollywood All-Pro team, the best at every position from movies and television.

AU led by three at the half, but Holy Cross went on a 12-4 run at the start of the second half to rally for a 58-47 victory on Wednesday night in Worchester, Mass.
The Eagles held conference leading-scorer Keith Simmons scoreless for the first 27 minutes of the game, but he hit a three-pointer with the score tied at 29 to give Holy Cross the lead for good.
With the loss, AU drops to 3-5 in the Patriot League while the Crusaders improve to 8-0. The Eagles will host Lehigh on Saturday afternoon.

Before we get down to business, I'd like to congratulate Ryan Spilhaus for answering last week's trivia question. He submitted his response within hours of the paper's release, which is actually kind of sad because not only does he read The Eagle, but he had the time to send in a response.

Welcome to the first edition of The Idiot Box, a recurring feature in which I'll discuss what has been going on with some of the best shows on television, spanning everything from courtroom dramas to celeb-reality trash. Also, the end of each article will highlight one television show that isn't getting the attention it deserves.
