The Eagles come to a halt in the second round of the NCAA Tournament

The American University men’s soccer season came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the nation’s No. 1 seed Clemson Tigers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on May 2. Despite an early lead by the Eagles, Clemson rallied back to equalize, eventually scoring the game-winning penalty kick in the 62nd minute of the second half.

For the first time since 2004, American University men’s soccer (4-1-2) has advanced to the NCAA men’s soccer tournament after defeating the Lafayette Leopards (7-1) 2-1 in the Patriot League Championship’s double overtime thriller.


Eagles advance to Patriot League championship for the first time since 2016

After being picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League preseason poll, American University men’s soccer (3-1-2) defeated the Loyola Greyhounds (3-2-1) 3-2 Wednesday to advance to the Patriot League championship game. The game came down to the final minutes after the Greyhounds equalized in the second half, but the Eagles bounced back with a goal in the 81st minute.


The Eagles clinch a playoff berth with a draw against Navy

For the second game in a row, a hard-fought battle ended with a draw in double overtime as American University men’s soccer (2-1-2) and the Navy Midshipmen (4-1-1) each scored only one goal. Ending with a draw, AU has advanced to the four-team Patriot League tournament, notching a top-four seed for the first time since 2016.

The NBA playoffs are in full swing, but obviously, not every team is good enough to be a part of the games down in Florida. The Wizards (25-47) are one of these teams, as they failed to nab the 8th-seed during the eight-game regular-season stint that led up to the playoffs. Though Washington finished its disappointing season with an equally underwhelming performance in the bubble, the front office will benefit in the form of a first-round lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

The Eagle’s season came to an abrupt and heartbreaking end in the quarterfinals of this year's Patriot League tournament. With the loss to the No. 7 Bucknell Bison, AU was no longer in contention for the now-canceled NCAA tournament.

AU women’s basketball has been having a rough season to say the least. That was even further compounded by a tough loss to the Lafayette Leopards on Saturday, sinking them to 4-6 in Patriot League play and 8-12 overall – a significant dropoff for a team that just last season made it to the Patriot League championship game.

It is obvious that a basketball game can be decided by the turnover margin. For teams that often find themselves in close games, grabbing a few extra steals can be the difference between a win and a loss. This is great for AU’s team, who leads the Patriot League with 7.6 steals per game.
