The chirping birds, the popping leaves and the warming air mean only one thing: spring has returned and the Major League Baseball season has begun. For most fans across the country, this is a time of hope and optimism, to cheer on their teams as they begin a push towards the ultimate prize of a World Series championship. However, for those of us living inside the Capital Beltway, the Washington Nationals do not give us any reason to be excited for baseball season.

Although it's nicknamed the charity stripe, the free-throw line was anything but generous for the AU women's basketball team last night, as they missed 12 shots from the line and only hit 57 percent for the game en route to a 60-58 overtime loss to the U.S. Military Academy Black Knights Wednesday night. The loss drops the Eagles out of first place in the Patriot League with three league games to play.

Senior guards Derrick Mercer and Garrison Carr continued to roll offensively, scoring 17 and 13 points, respectively in the Eagles' 58-36 victory over the Army Black Knights on Wednesday night. After playing poorly in Wednesday's game against Bucknell University, sophomore guard Nick Hendra stepped up in a big way on Saturday, recording his first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles to a 69-44 win over Colgate University. Their win, coupled with the College of the Holy Cross's loss later in the day, gave the Eagles sole possession of first place in the Patriot League.
