Following a new recruitment strategy, The Eagle’s spring staffers are younger and more racially and ethnically diverse than in the fall, according to information announced by the paper’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group at its first meeting of the semester Wednesday.

Staff applications for The Eagle remain open for interested students from all schools, majors and years to apply by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 21, according to Editor-in-Chief Sophie Austin. At a recent Diversity, Equity and Inclusion meeting, the group reiterated that anyone who is innately curious, wants to be part of a collaborative team and wants to engage with the American University community, should apply.

At the most recent meeting of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group this semester, Editor-in-Chief Sophie Austin announced that Eagle staff members will attend a Q&A session on Nov. 9 with School of Communication assistant professors Amy Eisman and Sherri Williams to learn about reporting on marginalized communities. Eisman is the director of the journalism division, and Williams is a member of SOC's DEI committee.
