The AU Eagles won 2-0 at the U.S. Military Academy on Monday afternoon, clinching a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. After this win, the Eagles improved their record to 8-7-2. Their record in conference play improved to 4-1-1.
The Eagles pulled out to an early lead when freshman forward Jack Scott scored just over a minute into the game. Scott put the ball in the top left corner of the goal past Army senior goalkeeper John-Michael Gallogly. Sophomore forward Mike Worden provided the assist for Scott.
The game’s second and final goal came at the opposite end of the game in the 90th minute. Junior midfielder Cameron Petty scored from 10 yards out to put the game securely in the win column for the Eagles.
Matt Makowski, AU’s freshman goalkeeper, provided an excellent performance in goal. He did not allow a goal for the Black Knights during the entire 90 minutes of play. In his winning effort, Makowski made two saves on both of Army’s shots on goal.
Army’s goalkeeping duties were split between Gallogly and senior A.J. Glubzinski. Gallogly and Glubzinski each gave up a goal.
Throughout the game, the Eagles were able to keep the Army goaltenders on their feet by outshooting their opponents 13-8. AU also managed to put more shots on goal than Army, 4-2.
