Students gather in Tavern to watch Olympic gold medal hockey game

The Tavern erupted in an explosion of cheering, clapping and chants of “U-S-A” Sunday night, and this time the noise was not for a political election or address. Instead, the students filling the dining area were celebrating Zach Parise’s game-tying goal with 25 seconds left in Sunday’s Olympic gold medal game between the United States and Canada.

Women’s basketball ties for Patriot League season title

Raven Harris poured in a career-high 21 points, and the AU women’s basketball team pulled away from Lafayette College in the second half to defeat the Leopards 68-47 Saturday in Easton, Pa.

Bode Miller completes comeback with strong Olympic showing

Team USA skiing maverick Bode Miller finished his final run in Vancouver in much the same way as he did the 2006 Olympics, throwing his hands up in defeat after missing a gate. His overall Olympic performance however, couldn’t be more different than it was in Turin, Italy.

Ohio State University overwhelms AU lacrosse 16-7

The AU women’s lacrosse team lost their second game in a row, falling to No. 16 Ohio State on Saturday 16-7. 

Ohio State got off to a fast start scoring less than two minutes into the match. The game would settle down after that, however, as both teams traded shots and turnovers. AU had several chances just under 10 minutes in when Bernadette Maher, Amanda Makoid and Samantha Marshall all had shots on net. The Buckeyes would take control of the match after that however, as they scored three goals in the next four minutes. Two of the three goals came off of AU turnovers or draw wins by OSU.

The sports industry has seen a revolution in more than just its uniforms in the past half century. In addition to losing the short-shorts, sports have been improved by the addition of women to all aspects of the games. One AU administrator says Title IX is responsible for much of the changes.

Men’s basketball ends losing streak
