Nebraska Hall, the Katzen Arts Center and Ward Circle experienced a temporary power outage Tuesday night. Power returned two hours later, but the cause of the power outage has not been confirmed at this time.
Cable TV service in numerous residence halls across campus was also temporarily cut off because of the power outage, but most channels were back as of 12:40 a.m.
The power went out in Nebraska Hall around 10:40 p.m., according to Nebraska Hall Resident Assistant Josh Rothman. A Nebraska Hall RA then alerted the Department of Public Safety about the situation.
A resident contacted Facilities Management independently of the RAs, and Facilities Management arrived on the scene to confirm the power outage.
Back-up generators in Nebraska Hall provided power to at least one light in every room in the residence hall and to the elevators to ensure the safety of the residents.
Rothman said the RAs were told by PEPCO - the electricity provider for AU and the surrounding community - that about 1,500 customers were affected by the power outage.
Police blocked off the inside lane of traffic in Ward Circle during the outage because the traffic lights were not working. Streetlights were also out along portions of Massachusetts Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue.
Power was restored to Nebraska Hall around 12:14 a.m.
