New spam-filtering system in place

January 28, 2008

AU last weekend upgraded its e-mail system with a new spam-filtering program, according to a memo from the Office of Information Technology.

Every day, students will receive an e-mail from the university listing e-mails tagged as spam by the filtering program. They can then choose whether to read the e-mails or keep them quarantined.

“We were getting a lot of spam e-mail,” said Network Operations LAN Analyst Vick Bhatia. “Now users will be receiving far less e-mail. The new system will filter out e-mails from the server rather than the computer.”

The new filter does not require anyone to activate it, but the changes will be administered over a few days.
