Christian critics have voiced their outrage over a statue of Jesus Christ on display at a museum because it depicts him as having an erection, the Sun, a British newspaper, reported last week Friday.

Stephan Green, the national director of evangelical Christian group Christian Voice, deemed the statue blasphemous. Protesters planned to demonstrate outside the gallery, according to the Sun.

"It's the lord Jesus Christ being humiliated, ridiculed and vilified," Green told the Sun.

Green requested the sculpture be taken down and destroyed.

The sculpture is one of 74 plaster models from Chinese-born artist Terence Koh's exhibition, "Gone, Yet Still," on display at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England.

While the statue's underlying meaning remains unclear, a gallery spokesman said, "Koh is trying to explain all the things which have meant something to him."
