Spanish King Juan Carlos asked Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, "Why don't you shut up?" in a heated discussion between leaders at the Ibero-American Summit in Santiago, Chile, Saturday, according to BBC News.

The King's scolding came after Chavez called former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar "a fascist" and then tried to interrupt José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the current Spanish prime minister, as he defended Aznar, BBC News reported.

Official sources from the king's department Tuesday told El Mundo, a Spanish newspaper, the king was unhappy with his outburst but believed it was the correct action.

"The king responded because he thought Spain and its representatives were being attacked," sources said.

The king's outburst was not the only sour moment at the 17th annual summit. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega criticized the role of Spanish enterprises in his country, according to El Mundo.

Leaders from Argentina and Uruguay debated over a proposed Uruguayan paper mill Argentineans claim will hurt farmland in their country, BBC News reported.
