College Democrats hold first meeting
following suspension
Josh Goodman, a junior in the School of International Service, was named acting treasurer Tuesday at the College Democrats' first meeting since being suspended and losing their spring funding.
All campus clubs are allotted money through the AU Club Council and are required to fundraise 10 percent of the funds they are given, The Eagle previously reported. This money must be deposited into an account to receive additional money. The College Democrats failed to deposit this money and were not given their second half of the year allotment, The Eagle previously reported.
At the meeting, the College Democrats' executive board presented its upcoming events and brainstormed new fundraising ideas to help them make up their deficit.
"I'm pumped," President Matt Kent said. "This break has given us plenty of time to build up ahead of steam. We've built up a stockpile of campaign trips, speakers and events that will more than make up for our absence."

Three AU Students named Truman scholar finalists
JoAnna Smith, a junior in the School of Public Affairs, Anna Carpenter, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of International Service, and Daniel Rogers, a junior in CAS and SIS, were named Harry S. Truman Scholarship finalists, according to American Weekly.
"It's a huge honor to become a Truman national finalist," Katherine Stahl, executive director of the Career Center, told American Weekly.
Smith, Carpenter and Rogers will compete against students from their home states for the $30,000 scholarship to be used for graduate school before a career in public service, according to American Weekly.
Past AU winners of the scholarship include Stacy Aldinger, SIS/SPA '07, of Hawaii, and Forrest Dunbar, SIS/CAS '06, of Alaska.
AU was previously named a 2006 Truman Honor Institution at a ceremony that featured former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, American Weekly reported.
