Supreme Court rules in favor of same-sex marriage nationwide
A large crowd congregated on the sidewalk in front of the Supreme Court of the United States on Friday morning to celebrate the 5-4 vote that ruled same-sex-marriage a right protected by the Constitution.
While protesters silently held banners and signs promoting traditional marriage between men and women, the mass of people gathering outside the courthouse’s plaza primarily consisted of same-sex marriage advocates.
News interns ran across the courthouse stairs to deliver the verdict to media outlets, just a few minutes after the announcements began at 10 a.m. Once the decision was public, same-sex marriage advocates cheered, hugged and wept.
Here are a few photographs from the announcement of the court’s decision.
