Police Blotter: Oct. 8 - 13, 2008.


Oct. 8


A Grounds Department staff member reported he had cut his finger on the Tenley campus. The laceration appeared to be minor. The staff member drove himself to the hospital after he was advised that Public Safety does not do medical transports.

A Washington Semester Program staff member contacted Public Safety to request an officer respond to an incident that occurred in Constitution Hall between two roommates. An officer responded and made contact with the complainant in the presence of staff members. Housing and Dining is currently handling the matter.

Oct. 9


A resident assistant in Anderson Hall reported a student struck her head in her room after picking up books. The student told the RA she was not feeling well. She did not lose consciousness but felt lightheaded and nauseous. The D.C. Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services transported her to Sibley Hospital.

An RA reported an act of vandalism on the third floor of McDowell Hall. An unknown individual or group used a black marker to write phrases on several doors, including the door of the RA, as well as in other locations on the floor. The graffiti was left between midnight and 8 a.m. Officers took photographs of the graffiti.

A pedestrian reported a collision involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle on Nebraska Avenue near 42nd Street. The pedestrian reported the bicyclist was riding on a sidewalk and then entered the street, into the path of the striking vehicle. DCFD transported the bicyclist to Georgetown University Hospital. The bicyclist was not in critical condition. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene.

Oct. 10


Housing and Dining staff reported graffiti inside of an elevator and on a first floor bulletin board in McDowell. Staff took photos of the scene and contacted Aramark to remove the graffiti.

A manager in the Terrace Dining Room reported a kitchen staff member was experiencing chest pains. DCFD transported the staff member to Sibley.

An intoxicated student in Leonard Hall fell and hit his head in a stairwell. DCFD transported the student, who was conscious, to Sibley. A friend accompanied the student to the hospital. curred when his vehicle was parked in the lot.

Oct. 11


A McDowell desk receptionist reported a student experiencing a severe headache. The student was conscious and coherent. The student complained of a severe migraine headache and numbness on the right side of his body. DCFD and EMS transported the student to Sibley.

A student reported witnessing another student trip and fall into a wall on the third floor of Mary Graydon Center next to an elevator. The student that fell reported he was carrying a heavy camera when he lost his footing and fell into the wall. This incident left his full body print in the wall. Officers took photographs of the damage.

Oct. 12


An RA in Anderson reported a female in the terrace level north lounge who appeared to be intoxicated, incoherent and vomiting on herself. The female had no known affiliation with AU. She did not have any identification in her possession. Her friends identified her as a high school senior and indicated she drank alcohol at an off-campus party. DCFD and EMS transported her to Sibley.

An officer on routine patrol near Constitution Hall discovered a flowerpot where copies of The Eagle had been burned. The fire appeared to have been out for a long period of time. Officers took pictures of the scene and contacted groundskeepers to remove the debris.

On routine patrol through the Letts-Anderson quad, officers made contact with an individual who had been barred from campus. The subject acknowledged his awareness of the barring notice. Officers released the individual with a warning.

Oct. 13


A pull station on the fourth floor of Centennial Hall activated the building?s fire alarm system. Occupants evacuated the building. Facilities Management personnel responded and found no evidence of smoke or fire in the building. Facilities Management reset the pull station and the fire alarm panel. Residents then re-entered the building. A staff member reported graffiti on the Mary Graydon Center?s main entrance facade. The graffiti consisted of phrases written in chalk, appearing to be in protest of Columbus Day. An officer also noted similar phrases written on and near the front of Ward Circle Building and Hurst Hall. Officers took photographs of the scenes and notified Grounds Maintenance to remove the markings. A parent of a non-resident student called Public Safety to report she had not heard from her daughter since Oct. 9 and expressed concern about her welfare. The parent stated she had been unsuccessful in contacting her. Officers unsuccessfully attempted to locate the student on campus. At 6:20 p.m. that day, the parent called and asked Public Safety to disregard the welfare check request. She had received an e-mail from her daughter stating she was safe. The daughter lost her cell phone. A staff member reported her wallet was stolen from her backpack. She last saw her wallet at 8:30 a.m. and discovered it missing at 2 p.m. During that time, she left her backpack unattended in her unsecured office in the Watkins Building and also left it in an unsecured locker in the Jacobs Fitness Center. A student in Bender Library reported that when she entered the library through the front door, the bottom of the door caught her toenail and ripped it. She was wearing open toed flip-flops. DCFD and EMS transported the student to Sibley.
