Celebrity Weekend Wrap Ups

Move over, Rachel – Ross is off the market. According to People Magazine, David Schwimmer, 43, has proposed to his girlfriend, Zoe Buckman. Buckman, a 24-year-old photographer, has a 19-year difference with her fiancé but that didn’t stop the couple from taking the next step in their relationship. The pair met when Schwimmer was in London, directing his 2007 film, “Run Fat Boy Run.” So far, The Eagle has no details on the wedding date.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that hit Fox show “24” might be canceled. However, according to Entertainment Weekly, NBC might come to the show’s rescue. 20th Century Fox has reportedly approached NBC about picking up the show if Fox does cancel it, and it seems as though NBC is seriously considering it. 24, having been on the air for eight seasons, has been losing viewers and racking up the costs. However, if NBC does buy the show, the rumored spin-off film might be delayed. Reps from 20th Century Fox and NBC have declined to comment.

After a series of delays, Lil Wayne is finally behind bars. According to MTV, T-Pain has announced that the duet album between himself and Lil Wayne would still happen but would be on hold until the artist is released from prison. It has also been reported that Lil Wayne has been instructed not to sign any autographs for his cellmates. The artist began his year-long jail sentence for gun possession at New York’s Rikers Island last week.

Peter Graves of television’s “Mission Impossible” died Sunday. According to the New York Times, Graves, 83, died of a heart attack in his home in California. The actor with a long list of credentials in both film and television was perhaps most famous for his character on “Mission Impossible,” playing Jim Phelps, the leader of the Impossible Missions Force with a cool, deadpan demeanor. He is survived by his wife, Joan Graves, and their three daughters, Amanda Lee, Claudia King, and Kelly Jean.

The 2010 Academy Awards: A recap

Rather than write a cumulative wrap-up of my thoughts on tonight’s ceremony, I thought I’d be better to drag you, dear reader, along with me throughout this three-plus hour escapade that is watching the Academy Awards.

7:45 p.m. — I really hate red carpet shows and Ryan Seacrest certainly isn’t helping. He’s just like a pushy children’s pageant show mom. Probably with more hairspray.

8:45 p.m. — I’m really surprised by how awful Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin are doing so far. I think a lecture on genocide could elicit more laughter. It’s only up from here, gentleman.

8:47 p.m. — Christoph Waltz wins for his excellent turn in “Inglourious Basterds.” Nothing surprising there.

9:01 p.m. — Pixar conglomeration of power continues with another win in the Best Animated Film category for “Up.” Wes Anderson’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” was robbed!

9:07 p.m. — Ryan Bingham and T-Bone Burnett win Best Original Song for “The Weary Kind” from “Crazy Heart.” Best moment of the show so far occurred when, during his acceptance speech, Bingham told his wife that he loves her more than rainbows.

9:19 p.m. — Mark Boal wins Original Screenplay for “The Hurt Locker.” Let’s hope this is the first strike in the film’s sweep.

9:20 p.m. — Uh, Molly Ringwald has got some crazy eyes.

9:53 p.m. — Wow! “Precious” upsets presumed frontrunner “Up in the Air” for Best Adapted Screenplay. First shock of the night.

10:02 p.m. — Another obvious win here with Mo’Nique for “Precious,” but damn was she good. Definitely warranted that standing ovation. The Academy clearly loved “Precious.” I wonder if that love is going to surface in other categories. Perhaps a Gabby Sidibe upset.

10:10 p.m. — “Avatar” scores Art Direction. God I hate everyone and everything involved with “Avatar.” Hopefully this is a consolation prize for the hypocritical blockbuster.

10:20 p.m. — The “Paranormal Activity” skit between Baldwin and Martin was great. Too bad it’s the only funny thing that has happened between these two so far.

10:28 p.m. — Back-to-back Sound Design and Sound Editing wins for “Hurt Locker”! That’s three awards and counting!

10:39 p.m. — Boo. “Avatar” takes Best Cinematography. “White Ribbon” was robbed. Best Visual Effects will hopefully be the last win for “Avatar.”

10:50 p.m. — Dancing out the Best Original Score nominees is a clever premise, yet there was something slightly unnerving about seeing that twitchy dancer firing imaginary bullets to the “Hurt Locker” score. “Up” takes the award, unsurprisingly.

10:58 p.m. — “Avatar” takes Visual Effects. Jeepers! Biggest surprise of the night.

11:04 p.m. — “The Cove” takes Best Documentary. Dolphins for the win!

11:10 p.m. — “The Hurt Locker” wins the coveted Best Editing award. This is looking great for “Hurt Locker” to take picture. Also, geekiest, yet cutest co-editing couple ever?

11:17 p.m. — Wait. An even better duo: Pedro Almodovar and Quentin Tarantino co-presenting Best Foreign Film. As per usual, the winner is that out-of-left field film you never thought had a chance. This year, that film was “The Secret in their Eyes.” Poor “White Ribbon.”

11:28 p.m. — I really hate this acting showboating celebration. They have five presenters shower already over-praised actors with even more borderline self-masturbatory babble. It literally just took 10 minutes to announce that award, but at least Jeff Bridges, the right guy, won.

11:52 p.m. — Sandra Bullock takes Best Actress. Guess I should see “The Blind Side,” after all.

11:58 p.m. — Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director – the first female to ever win the award. Best win of the night. It’s been a long time coming!

12:02 p.m. — Score! “Hurt Locker” rightfully takes Best Picture! Well that was an awkward Best Picture announcement. I know the time was running long, but did ABC really have to cut the announcement of THE biggest award down that strangely? I mean… we’d be cutting into Jimmy Kimmel’s show. Does anyone even watch him anymore? Anyway, this might be the best Best Picture winner since “Annie Hall,” if you ask me. “The Hurt Locker” is leagues more revolutionary than “Avatar,” and you’ll see how as more bold, guerrilla filmmaking projects make it to the silver screen.

In the end, there weren’t too many surprises, but a lot of the right people won, and by right, I mean not James Cameron. My heart kind of fluttered when you could see the flames of rage engulf his eyes when he lost both Director and Picture. Overall, this was a job well done, Academy. “The Hurt Locker” is the strongest film to enter the library of Best Picture winners in quite some time.

Sayid vs. the Samurai

Last night’s episode focused on Sayid’s alternative life, in which Nadia, Sayid’s former love, is married to his brother, Omar. Omar has gotten involved in a corrupt business deal and wants Sayid to intimidate his business partner using his ‘interrogation’ skills. Sayid refuses, but then later is abducted by some henchmen who work for Martin Keamy, who we last saw on the island, executing Alex. When things turn violent, Sayid uses one of Keamy’s bodyguards as a shield and then shoots another guard and Keamy. He then finds Jin tied up in a giant fridge…wha?

Another macho fight scene takes place in Mr. Too-Cool’s herb room.

As Mr. Too-Cool attacks Sayid, Sayid claims he is a good man, a point disproved by his shooting of Keamy.

Mr. Too-Cool, wearing one glove in this scene, doesn’t kill Sayid, as he sees a baseball that reminds him of his piano-playing son who apparently died in a car accident. We later learn of Mr. Too-Cool’s story. Jacob approached him after the death of his son, saying he could bring his son back if he came to work on the island. However, he could never see his son again.

A similar promise is made to Sayid in the jungle after Mr. Too-Cool orders Sayid to stab Evil Locke with a samurai sword. However, Sayid has to stab Evil Locke before he can speak, which Sayid fails to do. Evil Locke then seduces Sayid into the idea of bringing Nadia back to life. Sayid relents and returns to the temple to relay Evil Locke’s message that Jacob is dead and those staying at the temple are free to leave the island. If people decide to stay, however, they will be killed. Gee, Evil Locke, not much of a choice.

It’s clear that Sayid has joined Evil Locke’s cult, meaning, we’ve lost another founding badass to this dark power.

Sayid has transformed into evil Locke’s killer; he drowned Mr. Too-Cool and slit the John Lennon guy’s throat, allowing the smoke monster to enter the temple.

The smoke monster comes and kills pretty much everyone besides the candidates. Luckily, Miles finds Lupedis and Ben who have been hanging out with Ilana. They hide in a secret room in the temple. The smoke monster also passes by Kate, who has just confessed to Claire that she’s been raising Aaron, mistake! Both Sayid and Claire now have this crazy smile thing going on that marks them as cult members.

Evil Locke is creating an army that will most likely battle Jacob’s defense, which is so far Jack and Hurley.

And where does Ben fit into all of this? Next week’s episode is all about him, which I will look forward to because Ben is the most complex character on TV!

Andrew Koenig was found dead in Vancouver Park on Thursday.

According to US Magazine, the “Growing Pains” star reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the park.

The 41-year-old actor’s parents spoke in a press conference and urged people to be eyeful of the signs of depression in loved ones. The Koenigs have urged fans to donate to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline or the U.S. Campaign for Burma in honoring their son’s memory.

Actor Jim Carrey became a grandpa on Friday. According to the Los Angeles Times, Carrey’s daughter Jane Carrey gave birth to baby boy Jackson Riley Santana at 12:28 a.m. Girlfriend Jenny McCarthy is excited with the birth as well, and even though she is not the boy’s blood relative, she is still intent on being called grandmother.

Gary Coleman suffered a seizure on the set of “The Insider” on Friday. According to the Los Angeles Times, the actor was taken to a Los Angeles area hospital.

This is the second seize Coleman has suffered this year, the other being in January requiring hospitalization. The actor, 41, suffers from a congenital kidney disease and requires frequent dialysis.

Gatorade has finally dropped Tiger Woods.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Gatorade formally announced that it was severing its endorsement ties with the golfer, stating, “We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship. However, our partnership with the Tiger Woods Foundation will continue. We wish him all the best.”

This marks the third sponsor to have dropped Woods since the golfer’s affairs were made public, the other two being Accenture PLC and AT&T. While Gillette and Tag Heuer have kept Woods, the companies have distanced themselves from him.

Lost: Jack, the best candidate?

On last night’s episode, “The Lighthouse,” we met a mini-Shephard, Jack’s son, David. Jack has David while David’s mother is out of town, however the two have trouble communicating. We see commonalities in the relationships of Jack and his father and Jack and his son. Luckily, Jack is neither an alchie nor a prick and he overcomes the communication barrier when he shows up to his son’s piano audition only to meet Mr. Too-Cool and his tiny, prodigy son.

“They’re too young for that much pressure,” Mr. Too-Cool says of the boys. What does he know about pressure? He gets to prance around his hidden temple, ordering John Lennon and his jungle slaves to do stuff for him, like drown Sayid. Thankfully, Evil Locke is headed his way and will most likely kill him with some smoke monster shit.

Back on the beach, Claire fixes up Jin’s leg and then sinks an axe into the chest of that fake Lawrence Fishbourne guy. Clearly she’s crazay! As if that ratty wig wasn’t already a sign. One more thing, she’s been hanging out with Evil Locke and she keeps this crazy animal skull in a rather new-looking basonette, pretending it’s her baby! I’m not sure I want to see any more of Claire’s story, but she does say, “one thing that’ll kill you around here is infection,” alluding to others that have died. And she had a scar where Mr. Too-Cool branded her. Doesn’t that mean she’s not ‘claimed,’ if she still burns, like a mortal?

Although the episode was very Jack-centered, Hurley had a few good moments. He referenced Star Wars, comparing Jacob to Obi-Wan Kenobi, and then proclaimed, “I just lied to a Samurai,” in reference to Mr. Too-Cool.

Hurley took Jack to a lighthouse, that no one had ever noticed before, expecting to find Jacob. Instead, they found some kind of clock that when shifted to a specific degree corresponding with a survivor’s name, showed an image in a mirror from that person’s life. In the mirror, we saw glimpses of Sun and Jin’s wedding, the church where Sawyer’s parents had their funeral, and the house in which Jack grew up.

But who will the next ‘protector’ be? It can’t be someone who has been ‘claimed,’ so that rules out Sayid, Locke and Claire. The remaining candidates would be Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Sun or Jin.This last episode led us to believe it might be Jack, because Jacob is always so interested in him. That would be too obvious and Jack would never give his life to the island. Man, Locke would’ve been perfect, too bad he’s dead. So the protector will either be someone unexpected, like Rose or Bernard, or something out of character would happen. It could be J.J. having Jack and Kate settling on the island, making a super handsome family. A hundred bucks says the last scene of the series will be some happy people frolicking on the beach, after all, that’s how Alias ended. Done.

Celebrity Weekend Wrap Ups

Hilary Duff recently became engaged to her <del>NFL</del> NHL boyfriend, Mike Comrie. According to E! Online, the former “Lizzie McGuire” star’s rep announced the couple “was engaged this weekend while vacationing in Hawaii. After having been together for over two years, they are very excited to share this happy news. They are thankful for all your warm wishes.” So far, there is no wedding date set.

Actor Andrew Koenig is reportedly missing in Vancouver. According to ABC News, the police stated the former “Growing Pains” recurring star was visiting friends when he disappeared. His last known appearance was on Feb. 14. Koenig, 41, has been reported by the police to be recently “despondent and his family and friends are concerned for his well-being.” Koenig played Boner on “Growing Pains,” Mike’s (Kirk Cameron) friend.

Everyone knows of Angelina Jolie’s tumultuous relationship with her father, actor Jon Voight. However, according to MSNBC, the two were seen together in Venice. Sources are claiming the father and daughter have reconciled, and a photo taken in Italy shows the two together with Pitt and Zahara, the couple’s oldest daughter. Pitt reportedly played a crucial role in bringing the two back together.

The Facebook group “Betty White to host SNL (please?)!” might actually have done the trick. According to Entertainment Weekly, improv television show Saturday Night Live is putting together a “Women of Comedy” episode where the former “Golden Girls” star might be paired with ex-SNL MVP Molly Shannon, with the potential of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler also appearing.

Mysteries ‘unLocked’ in latest episode of ‘LOST’

Tuesday night’s episode of “LOST,” “The Substitute,” opened in suburbia as Locke arrived home to his fiancée Helen, played by “Futurama’s” Katey Sagal. As he was sitting in his wheelchair waiting for his ramp to reach the ground, he had an expression on his face like he shouldn’t be there; he shouldn’t be waiting for a machine to do this chore for him. In past seasons, we have seen examples of Locke’s pride and stubbornness; he insisted on partaking in a walk about despite his handicap.

On the island, the original John Locke was free from anger. He spent his days picking mangos and philosophizing, believing that fate had brought him there and given him his legs back.

This was the John Locke we loved: the smooth headed, blue-eyed guy who was much younger than his age. Recently, however, it’s been hard to see Locke as that good guy. Now that he has been overtaken by the smoke monster and has the ability to travel by air using the smoke, this foreign, malevolent Locke is less cool. Even in the parallel life, he doesn’t get to live on as a hero like he should.

We can see hints of resentment when he uses his ramp or struggles to put on socks. He resents his father for putting him in that chair and that anger comes out in his behavior toward people like Hurley and Rose. Parallel-life Locke makes himself a victim, but is rude to those who try to help him — behavior that regular, badass Locke would only pity.

In “The Substitute,” Locke transformed from victim to monster. The camera zoomed through the jungle from the perspective of the smoke monster. For an instant, we saw the smoke’s reflection in the window of Sawyer’s house. As it paused, it made a wrenching noise, like a roller coaster reaching the top before it plunges. This twisting sound played before each transition from pathetic Locke to evil Locke.

Evil Locke approached Sawyer, asking him to go with him somewhere, to which Sawyer’s response was, “Well, I guess I’d better put some pants on,” in his southern twang. After seeing a bloody kid in the jungle and almost falling off a crazy long ladder, the two finally reached a cave where Jacob had written the last names of all the survivors on a wall. Those that had passed had their names crossed out. Each name of the surviving was accompanied by a number. We don’t yet know what these numbers mean, but we will soon enough. Locke went through each of the names and recalled when Jacob touched each survivor, but he left out Kate’s. Why, J.J.?

The episode ended with Sawyer and evil Locke deciding to get off the island. I’ve heard that one before; good luck, boys.

Actor Kevin Smith was denied passage on a Southwest Air flight because he was “too fat.” According to People, the actor tweeted his outrage after he was kicked off the plane Saturday. Southwest Airlines officials have reached out to him apologizing for the incident but also gave the reason for his expulsion. “Safety and comfort of all customers” were cited, meaning “if a customer cannot comfortably lower the armrest and infringes on a portion of another seat, a customer seated adjacent would be very uncomfortable and a timely exit from the aircraft in the event of an emergency might be compromised if we allow a cramped, restricted seating arrangement.” The “Clerks” star has been given a $100 voucher but has said he is still angry at the airline for kicking him off the flight.

According to People, the 40-year-old designer Alexander McQueen committed suicide last Thursday, days after his mother passed away. Friends and journalists have commented on the strong bond McQueen shared with his mother and that when she died, “he could not face the future.” With the suicide of his mentor, stylist Isabella Blow, in 2007, and the death of his Aunt Dolly last year, the designer had lost three very important women in his life by the time he took his own life. Naomi Campbell hosted a “Fashion for Relief” charity event to raise money for Haiti, featuring McQueen’s latest fashions. According to E! Online, the model said, “This is a sad day to all who loved him around the world and my condolences are with his family. I will miss him so much, he will never be forgotten.”

According to Los Angeles Times, Lindsay Lohan was offered an interesting proposal: attend the Vienna Opera Ball (reportedly the height of the Austrian social season) with 77-year-old Austrian billionaire Richard Lugner. Lugner, known for his famous dates (including Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, and Ginger Spice), had invited the “Mean Girls” star to be his escort and even paid for her transportation. Instead, Lohan missed her flight because she was too busy shopping. She did arrive but too late; the businessman had to find another companion for the evening.

Brittany Murphy’s last film “Abandoned” will be released this summer. According to Access Hollywood, the late actress’ movie was picked up by Anchor Bay Entertainment and is a psychological thriller where Murphy’s character is desperate to prove her sanity and save her kidnapped boyfriend.

Lost reveals smoke monster’s secret ability

The biggest Lost bite last night was that the smoke monster, represented by ‘The Man in Black,’ has the ability to “claim” multiple people once they’ve died. This transformation has overtaken Locke, Sayid, and according to ‘Mr. Too-Cool-For-English,’ Claire as well. The episode bounced backed and forth between Sayid’s resurrection at the temple and Kate’s interactions with Claire in Los Angeles.

Once Sayid wakes up, John Lennon and Mr. Too-Cool take him to a back room, blow some herbs over him and then take a hot poker to his freshly healed gun wound. Because he was untouched, it is clear that Sayid has been taken by this darkness that grows like blood poisoning: “once it reaches your heart, you’re gone.”

In the jungle, Kate and Jin are escorted by two Others, one of them being Rob McElhenney from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” who we last saw guarding the door in season three while Karl was being hypnotized. Kate is off to find Sawyer because he’s so distraught and emotional after losing Juliette, blah blah blah, such as. Jin chooses to stay with the Others, in hopes of finding Sun, until they turn on him and Claire shoots them to protect Jin. We don’t get any dialogue out of Claire, but she seems pretty coherent, leading us to ask whether she really has been “claimed.”

Back in L.A., Kate rushes Claire to the hospital in a stolen taxi. When they arrive, Claire’s doctor, Dr. Goodspeed, is Ethan! When faced with the possibility of delivering the baby early and giving Claire drugs, he says, “I don’t want to stick you with needles if I don’t have to.” Ironically, Ethan tried to secretly withdraw fluid from pregnant Claire in season one.

At the temple, Mr. Too-Cool, really named Doga, reveals to Jack, in English, that he wants to poison Sayid. However, Sayid does not show the same signs as Locke, who is also consumed by some Lost spirit. Will Sayid turn to a machine, operating under some ghost’s instructions? If so, then we’re losing another badass. Maybe Mr. Too-Cool will help Sayid using his medicinal powers. We do know, of Mr. Too Cool, that he was brought to the island like everyone else and that he makes decisions for the Others, like a second Jacob. We also know that we will never see Mac from “Sunny” again, as Claire shot him in his little vest, Rousseau-style.

“Dear John” Defeats “Avatar,” Chinese woman opts for surgery to look like Jessica Alba

Whenever people hear the name ‘Jennifer Aniston,’ thoughts of the Aniston-Pitt-Jolie feud springs to mind. But according to People, for her 41st birthday (or pre-birthday – the actual date is February 11), the “Friends” actress celebrated in Mexico. And she was not alone – her “The Bounty Hunter” co-star Gerard Butler tagged along. Other stars include Couteney Cox, her husband David Arquette and Sheryl Crow (a fellow Feb. 11 birthday). Hopefully her actual birthday celebration is just as fun!

“Dear John” triumphed over Cameron’s “Avatar” this weekend for the No. 1 spot at the box office. According to the Washington Post, the chick flick opened with $32.4 million, bumping the sci-fi film to the No. 2 spot with $24.6 million. This news isn’t too surprising, as “Dear John” was the creation of beloved author Nicholas Sparks, who brought the world “The Notebook” starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. This could mean Miley Cyrus’ film “The Last Song” (also written by Sparks) will dominate the screen when it is released in March.

Can’t get enough of Twilight’s favorite werewolf? Well, Taylor Lautner is set to star in “Stretch Armstrong” as the title character. According to MSNBC, the film is due to be released in 2012, so as not to conflict with his other upcoming films, including “Max Steel,” “Northern Lights,” and “Cancun.” The last film will feature Lautner’s martial arts skills. But don’t worry – Lautner still has time for his Twilight commitments.

Girls everywhere wish they could look like beautiful Jessica Alba but none of them have ever turned to surgery – until now. According to NBC Los Angeles, a 21-year-old Chinese woman named Xiaoqing wants to undergo plastic surgery to look like the star in an effort to win back her ex, who was a huge fan of the American actress. Alba has been reportedly distressed and said, “I think you should never have to change yourself like that. If somebody loves you, they’ll love you no matter what.”

Lost premiere leads to more questions

On Tuesday Lost fans were treated to a filling two-part premiere episode. Opening with the familiar white flash was a sign that the island again moved through time. In the air, we see events transpire as they would have had Oceanic flight 815 landed in Los Angeles.

But how did Desmond get there? At that time, he should’ve been locked up in the hatch.

We are hit with a bit of nostalgia as we see some favorites who have since passed, like Boone, Charlie, and Claire. Thousands of miles beneath the plane we see the island completely submerged in water, perhaps what happened when the bomb went off.

Also in present time, but on the island, the gang tries to rescue Juliet from under the rubble. After she dies, Sawyer shoots death glares to Jack every chance he gets. Jacob appears to Hurley and tells him to take Sayid to the temple.

When they arrive, they are greeted by some cool guy who hates the English language and his John Lennon friend who translates. Hurley gives them the guitar case that holds the same cross that the giant Egyptian statue once held and a list with all of their names on it.

Oh Jacob, so cool you are, giving instructions from the grave. Inside, they try to heal Sayid in the spring, but are unsuccessful, until he miraculously wakes up moments later. Thank God, because the loss of one of the island’s founding bad-asses would have put me in the blues for the rest of the week.

Back in Jacob’s underground tapestry room, we learn that ‘The Man in Black’ is also the black smoke monster. When Jacob’s bodyguards from the Ajira 316 flight come in to confront Locke, the smoke monster throws them all over the place, even outsmarting one dude who tries to protect himself in a ring of some kind of powder.

Outside, ‘The Man in Black’ recognizes Richard and says, “good to see you out of those chains.” He then knocks out poor Richard, slings him over his back and then leaves. Because this bad guy now has his own story line, it’s clear that we won’t see any more from the real John Locke on the island, which is a bit sad because I’d place him in the group of founding bad-asses, what with his knowledge of knives, tracking, and his overall friendly grandpa persona.

Perhaps John Locke will come back to the island; as Jack says, “nothing’s irreversible.”

“Vanity Fair” draws criticism, Michael Jackson’s doc ready to turn himself in

Celebrity Weekend Wrap Ups

The new cover of “Vanity Fair” met with much criticism when the list of New Hollywood 2010 girls was released. According to USA Today, all the magazine’s picks for new-and-upcoming stars are Caucasian and extremely thin. Some felt that several of the actresses deserved recognition including Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious). Two of the girls on the cover – Kristen Stewart (Twilight fame) and Amanda Seyfriend (Mean Girls, soon to be released Dear John) – were already selected in the August 2008 “Vanity Fair” coverage of Hollywood newcomers.

Caressa Cameron from Virginia won the title “Miss America” Saturday night. According to People, the 22-year-old took the crown as well as a $50,000 scholarship with Miss California Cavinder the first runner up winning $25,000. Our own AU alum Jen Corey finished in the top 10.

Boston Legal star Justin Mentell died Monday. According to MTV, the actor, 27, passed away after his Jeep careened off a highway and collided into two trees. He was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on site. Mentell played Garrett Wells on “Boston Legal” from 2005-2006, and starred in “G-Force” last year.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Michael Jackson’s doctor is ready to give himself up. Dr. Conrad Murray’s attorney announced his client would turn himself in if charges against him are filed in the “Thriller” singer’s death. Murray admits to giving Jackson, who died last summer, anesthetic propofol before his death. This confirms the autopsy that the cause of the pop singer’s death was “acute propofol intoxication” along with sedatives.

‘LOST’: A five-season recap and look ahead

The sixth and final season of Lost airs tonight. Many answers lie in this season, but it is inevitable that some mysteries will remain unsolved; producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse intend to leave some things blank.

The finale of the fifth season gave us some answers, but left us with more questions. For the first time, we saw the entire statue of Taweret, the four-toed Egyptian statue that represents fertility, which is ironic, considering that no woman has been able to conceive on the island, with the exception of Sun. We caught our first glimpse of Jacob making a giant tapestry in his underground room. On the beach, ‘The Man in Black’, Jacob’s nemesis, ensures Jacob that he’ll find a way to kill Jacob, a loophole in the system. We then see Jacob featured in the flashbacks of Kate, Sawyer, Ilana, Jack, Sun and Jin, Sayid, and Hurley. Jacob touches each of these characters, marking them as survivors. When Jacob shares a cab with Hurley, he leaves behind a guitar case, a possible sign that Charlie may be returning this season.

Meanwhile, back in 1977, Daniel Faraday convinces Jack to detonate the hydrogen bomb at the Swan construction site in hopes of preventing the event that brings down Oceanic flight 815. Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer are on a Dharma submarine about to return to the normal world when Juliet and Kate insist on stopping Jack from setting off a bomb. On the way to the Swan site, Jack and Sayid pose as regulars in Dharmaville until Roger Linus recognizes them and shoots Sayid. Hurley, Jin, and Miles, who have been living in the 70’s come to the rescue in a blue Dharma van. On the way to the Swan the group is intercepted by Juliet, Kate, and Sawyer. They allow Jack to continue on his mission after he and Sawyer have a smack-down brawl in the middle of the jungle. At the Swan site, the drill hits a pocket of electromagnetic energy and Juliet is pulled into a deep hole. A bit sad, yes, but the chemistry between she and Sawyer was as believable as anything coming from Ben Linus’ mouth.

In present day, what we think is John Locke, is leading Ben, Richard, and the others to see Jacob. Unbeknownst to the others, Locke’s plan is to have Ben kill Jacob. Locke’s plan proves successful. Ben stabs Jacob from behind a bruised ego; John Locke got to meet Jacob before Ben did. When the dead body of John Locke is found in the cargo of Ajira flight 316, it is clear that ‘The Man in Black’ did find his loophole and was posing as a living John Locke.

The episode ended in white as the hydrogen bomb detonated, maybe. Many questions have yet to be answered, like why are Jacob and Richard ageless? What’s the story behind Richard’s eyeliner? Who is ‘The Man in Black’ and why did he want to kill Jacob? Some of these questions may be answered on Tuesday, but probably not because J.J. likes to keep us guessing. Hang on Lost goers, we’re almost there.

Be sure to check out The Scene’s LOST recap and live blog each week!
