Capital Classics film series screens holiday movies to get in the spirit

Take a study break and go see a film

With the holidays upon us, it’s time for a good holiday movie. Landmark Theatres West End Cinema is hosting showings of several classic and holiday films every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m and 7:30 p.m. for their first winter Capital Classics Film Series. The program will run until Dec. 27.

Landmark Theatres reopened West End Cinema back in July 2015 and is conveniently located three blocks north of the Foggy Bottom Metro Station on 23rd St, NW. In March of 2016, the theatre was renovated, which included a remodeling to oversized, plush leather seating and riser platforms, allowing for more comfort. The theatre also included larger screens and wall-to-wall carpeting on auditorium floors.

Laine Kaplowitz, an organizer for the event, said in an email, “the series offers Washingtonians a chance to view beloved movie classic[s] the way they were meant to be experienced -- on the big screen and in the company of other movie lovers.”

Laine also said that local movie fans can experience some well-known classics with a live audience in the theatre.

Thanks to popular demand, West End Cinema will do another installment of Capital Classics Film Series and will announce more details in early 2018.

Tickets are $12.50 for adults, so take a study break from finals and go have some fun with friends while watching classic films.

Upcoming showings:

December 13, 2017 is “Meet Me in St. Louis” (1944)

December 20, 2017 is “Elf” (2003)

December 27, 2017 is “Casablanca” (1943)
