Fanta Aw to testify in front of Senate committee Tuesday

University official to deliver viewpoint on campus free speech

Interim Vice President of Campus Life Fanta Aw will testify Tuesday in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee about free speech on campus, according to a list of witnesses released by the committee on June 16.

The hearing, titled “Free Speech 101: The Assault on the First Amendment on College Campuses,” will begin at 10 a.m. It will be livestreamed on the committee’s website.

Aw will appear alongside students from Williams College and the University of Cincinnati College of Law as well as the president of the Southern Poverty Law Center and a professor at the University of California-Los Angeles School of Law, among others.

Her testimony comes after the University garnered national attention in May when students protested a hate crime targeting black women on campus. The university also received widespread media coverage when student demonstrators burned American flags at a November protest against President Trump’s election.
