Eagle’s Nest and Starbucks will close at 10 p.m.

The Office of University Architects will perform “emergency maintenance” on a water boiler in the Mary Graydon Center starting at 10 p.m. on Sept. 18, which will close Eagle’s Nest and Starbucks due to a lack of hot water.

The maintenance was labeled an “emergency” because it will impact all the retail spaces in the tunnel, the Terrace Dining Room kitchen, MGC bathrooms, Jacobs Fitness Center, the Sports Center and the swimming pool, according to Michael Purcell, a senior project manager with the Office of University Architects.

“One thing that we did find when we were working on the [TDR] kitchen renovations was that some of the old pipes would not be able to withstand the new water pressure,” Purcell sail.

The repairs will replace and check the boiler’s water pipes, Purcell said. There will be no hot water during the repair, but there should continue to be cold water, Purcell said.

The work on the boiler is scheduled to stretch from 10 p.m. on Sept. 18 to 5 a.m. on Sept. 19, according to Facilities Management Maintenance Coordinator Victor Gordon and Building Maintenance Supervisor Van DeWitt.

Signs announcing the early closures were posted at Eagle’s Nest and Starbucks. A sign announcing the early closure was posted on Starbuck’s door on Sept. 17.

The eateries’ supervisors were not informed of what work was scheduled to be done. The supervisor at Starbucks on Sept. 18, Yvette, said that she was made aware of the early closure when she arrived at work today. She would not give her last name. Starbucks’ staff was not asked to stop using any water or plumbing, she said.
