Changes coming to parking permits at AU

AU’s Department of Public Safety announced that it will issue all staff and students new parking permits in the first of several changes recommended by the University Parking and Transportation Task Force in order to maximize campus parking.

The administration is taking new measures to optimize campus parking space due to the demolition of the Nebraska Avenue parking lot, Executive Director of University Safety Programs Dan Nichols said in an August 1 memo to the campus community. The lot will be torn down in order to make room for the development of the new East Campus.

Commuter student parking permits will be available for purchase beginning Aug. 18, and summer student parking permits expire on Aug. 15. All faculty and staff parking permits will be replaced between Sept. 1 and Sept. 12. Permit distribution location and times will be released in a later announcement according to the email.

Public Safety will lead the implementation of the changes, the rest of which will be released in full in the coming weeks, as well as an updated campus parking map. All of this information will be available on the Public Safety- Parking and Traffic Services webpage, according to the memo.

The memo also reminded the campus community of AU’s Good Neighbor Policy, which prohibits parking on all neighborhood streets while attending class, working or visiting on campus property. Violators are subject to a $100 fine, enforced by AU Public Safety.

Additional information about the changes in parking will be available on the Parking and Traffic Services website by mid-August.
